A manufacturing company had an urgent requirement for more storage space. Having enquired online initially, our team were able to provide a budget quotation and building design concept within 5.5 hours, quickly allowing the client to assess the feasibility of the project. A site consultation was booked the very same day to develop the project collaboratively with the client’s Operations Director and our local temporary building expert.
The client required a 160m2 structure in their yard to provide a secure storage building to support day-to-day operational activities. A key requirement was a clearspan internal layout to maximise usable space within the structure. The client also required the site to be fully operational, without down time during the installation.
Safety and compliance was fundamental and we were required to complete and pass the client’s supplier vetting process. This gave full confidence to proceed quickly through internal sign-offs. The site itself introduced several constraints that shaped the project. The building had to be installed in a tight area on a mixed ground surface of block paving and tarmac, with natural gradients directing water towards an existing central drain. The positioning of the building was defined by nearby rooflines and access routes, requiring careful coordination of MEWP access for the installation. In addition, the client required assurance around anchorage design, with full technical drawings.
Working closely with the client, following the site appraisal and consultation, we were able to develop the initial concept and create a larger building within the client’s yard space, ultimately providing a 180m2 building rather than the initial 160m2 requirement.
We designed a clear-span structure with a ridge height of 6.4m to enable bulk storage and maximise the usable space. The structure was specified with industrial steel side walls, an industrial grade PVC roof system, a 4m (w) x 3.5 (h) electrically operated, galvanised roller shutter door and a steel pedestrian/fire exit door. Anchorage was designed using ground pins, and we were commissioned by the client to complete a full range of geotechnical surveys (including topographical and utilities) to confirm suitability and compliance.
To ensure a smooth and risk-managed delivery, over the course of the design development, our team undertook three detailed site visits. This included a final pre-manufacture visit with all stakeholders and our dedicated Project Manager present to finalise access, MEWP working areas. We shared our five-day installation programme to ensure client operations were not disrupted. We then provided full structural calculations and detailed technical drawings, ensuring compliance and certainty ahead of manufacture and the installation.
