F&L Temporary Buildings delivered a bespoke HGV loading canopy and a further re-working building that transformed an exposed logistics yard into a more efficient, weather-protected operational space. The HGV loading canopy reduced further product rework by enabling the operation to side load vehicles during poor weather, and the second building provided capacity to re-work returned stock.
Beyond immediate operational benefits, the industrial canopy was engineered with long-term flexibility in mind. The design allows for future changes to loading patterns, additional access points, ensuring the structure continues to add value as site requirements evolve. During the project, an additional temporary building was scoped, designed and installed to further increase operational space for re-working product as this was currently taking up valuable warehouse space.
The client initially needed a warehouse canopy to support the loading and unloading of curtain-sided trailers. The canopy had to be carefully positioned to create level, usable space in front of three warehouse doors. The solution also needed to allow sufficient clearance and circulation space for forklifts operating simultaneously from multiple doors, while protecting products.
Drainage and water management were important considerations, as the structure would be surface mounted and installed on a sloping yard. The client also required confidence that the canopy layout would safely accommodate articulated vehicles without compromising yard movements or operational flow.
As this was a significant investment, the client also wanted absolute confidence in our capability. We arranged a reference visit to previously installed industrial canopies at Oak Furnitureland sites, providing reassurance around performance, quality and suitability
Within one working day, we designed and costed three bespoke options and provided a detailed design summary document to map the canopy in position, with vehicle routes on their site. following a number of site visits and design development, we arrived at an optimal solution.
We engineered variable leg heights ranging from approximately 6.3m down to 5.4m, allowing the canopy roofline to remain level while maintaining a minimum 5.5m clear internal height, making the structure suitable for double-decker trailers up to 4.9m high. Guttering and downpipes were incorporated along the eaves. Additional PVC link gutters were positioned above the warehouse doors to reduce direct rain ingress. A sliding gate was integrated into the right-hand eaves wall.
The success of the initial canopy installation quickly highlighted further opportunities to optimise the site. The client identified a growing need for additional covered space to support packaging and re working. Having seen first hand the quality of the design process, speed of delivery and operational benefits, we were commissioned to deliver their second structure.
The full project was designed and managed in-house, providing an end-to-end solution from initial concept to final handover.
The specification
Canopy: High-grade aluminium clear-span structure with a frame profile of 169mm x 97mm x 3mm
Re-working structure: grade aluminium clear-span structure with a frame profile of 230mm x 110mm x 3mm
Both structures featured industrial T35 polyester coated steel walling, internally coated with a galvanised protective coating to enhance performance and lifespan.
Both structures were specified with high-quality, tear-resistant PVC material, fully tensioned with a standard thickness of 650g /m2.

Canopy: Open ended canopy, with sliding gate side entrance
Re-working structure: One 3.5m (W) x 3.5m (H) electrically operated galvanised roller shutter door with one 1.0m (W) x 2.0m (H) single leaf steel pedestrian door unit.
L’ shaped aluminium flashing finished both buildings to create a neat seal to the floor.
Both buildings delivered a robust, adaptable solution that improved operational efficiency, protected goods and personnel, and provided a clear pathway for future enhancements such as lighting and widened access apertures if required. The result is a robust, practical site-wide infrastructure upgrade that supports ongoing logistics operations while avoiding the cost and disruption of permanent construction.
