Project SUMMARY

In a sector where operational efficiency, vehicle presentation, and customer satisfaction are key competitive drivers, the use of high-performance temporary buildings provides a cost-effective and flexible solution to expand. Whether for workshops, valeting bays, parts storage, or MOT testing, temporary buildings can be rapidly deployed to expand capacity in the automotive sector. They optimise workflow, increase operational capacity, and support growth with minimal disruption.

The Requirement

Our client, a leading multi-site automotive group recognised that workshop bays, that were originally designed for mechanical and diagnostic work were increasingly being used for valeting and vehicle preparation. This was creating workflow inefficiencies, slowing vehicle turnaround times and affecting staff welfare.

Having previously designed a technician’s workshop, we were re-engaged to explore options to provide a bespoke valeting building. The new structure needed to take the pressure off workshop space and improve the vehicle preparation operations, giving the valeting team a dry, well-lit space to work in throughout the year.

The Solution

Following a site consultation with one of our knowledgeable temporary building experts, we explored the available options, assessed the site constraints, and helped shape a solution from the ground up. Through a consultative design process and close collaboration with the client’s operational team, we took their brief into a clear, deliverable temporary building specification.

This resulted in the development of a bespoke, 120m2 three-bay valeting building that would be installed directly onto existing tarmac, anchored with driven pins, adjacent to their existing workshop. The efficient anchorage solution meant that no disruptive and expensive groundworks were required.

Each bay provides a 5m workspace per vehicle and a separate roller shutter door for each station. The internal ridge height gives ample clearance for larger vehicles at 5.6m. Simple high bay lighting and wall heating was fitted by the client post completion which has produced a comfortable working environment.

The installation process was swift, with a 5 day build programme and minimal plant. The install was completed with very limited disruption to the client, their customers and general operations. We provided expert, in-house project management to ensure a smooth, hassle free process.
