We were approached by a pharmaceutical company who required a loading bay shelter to protect sterile products and general deliveries during the loading and unloading process.
Their operation is time critical and sensitive to weather disruptions. They initially started their project by using our interactive configurator. From this initial concept, we developed a bespoke solution to protect two roller shutter doors at their warehouse. In addition, the canopy is often used as overflow storage and has improved efficiency while protecting sensitive deliveries. The shelter was designed in anthracite grey to seamlessly blend into their warehouse.
We recently provided Oak Furnitureland with three large loading bay canopies and a bespoke industrial canopy to shelter a bailing machine. As the canopies had to be installed on sloped loading ramps, we designed a customised leg system with increasing heights to factor in the gradient and keep the canopies level.
The loading bays had to be fully open to allow maximum truck accessibility, so we installed a raised steel bracing system in the gable triangle to enable access across the structure’s gable width providing a clearspan internal space for maximum efficiency.
Installing a canopy is fast. The structure does not need foundations due to the durable yet lightweight aluminum frame. We can install a canopy on any ground surface. Yes, we can design a seamless solution to integrate your canopy with an existing building. Alternatively we can engineer a stand-alone structure if required.
A loading dock acts as an opening flush with the warehouse wall, which allows the back of the vehicle to attach seamlessly to the facility. A loading canopy has an apex roof and is installed over the loading dock to provide shelter and weather protection from rain (and sun!) during the loading and unloading process. It protects products from damage and can also be used for additional storage space capacity.
In most cases, yes you will need planning permission. There are some exemptions and our knowledgeable team can help with the planning process and advice further on when planning permission is needed.
Our loading bay canopies typically come in 5m bays, making 10m, 15m and 20m width options the most efficient. We can manufacture to widths of up to 40m. The canopy comes in a range of heights to accommodate all types of vehicles. A standard articulated vehicle or curtain side trailer have a floor to roof height of around 5m. A 6m leg height will provide enough clearance at the eaves to accommodate a HGV. Taller canopies can be manufactured with leg heights of up to 10m.
No, we engineer the solution to work on uneven and sloped ground. We can install on almost any ground surface without the need for foundations.
A temporary canopy solution can be in place for 20+ years. They are referred to as “temporary” because they can be easily moved and relocated if your needs change.
