How can a temporary building offer climate controlled storage?
Firstly, a temporary warehouse can be fully climate controlled for temperature sensitive goods. In addition, a climate controlled building also creates a better working environment for staff.
While they are classed as “temporary”, these buildings are only temporary by name. They are robust, industrial strength structures. They can be in place for over 20 years and can be installed on virtually any ground surface.
Most commonly, they are used for storage buildings and warehouse buildings as well as workshops and even temporary sports halls. As they are engineered to stand the test of time, there are a range of specification options to create and maintain climate controlled storage within a temporary building.
To create a climate controlled storage environment, insulated sandwich panels, combined with an insulated or inflated roof will provide the optimal space. You can specify the exact insulation levels within the paneling. The most common option is 60mm panel as this provides a good balance between insulation and cost.
Temperature sensitive storage
Our buildings can be designed to offer complete control of temperature, protecting your stock and staff from extreme heat and humidity with refrigerated storage to providing warm or ambient storage in the winter months.
Case Study: An insulated temporary warehouse for IKEA
We provided a 15m x 18m on a 3m insulated temporary warehouse for IKEA, with a total area of 270 Sqm. The budling added additional warehouse capacity. Insulated sandwich panels and an inflatable roof system was used to create a thermally efficient, climate-controlled storage solution. Notably, the brief included the installation of a rapid-action roller shutter door to maximise energy efficiency and maintain the insulation properties within the temporary storage building.
Building efficiency
Additional insulation can be provided within the roof. One of the best ways of achieving this is with an inflatable roof, in which we combine two layers of robust PVC fabric with a wall mounted compressor system.
The quiet and efficient system re-cycles the air from outside and inflates the roof. The fans capacity is 620m3/h. This forms an insulated air pocket between the two PVC layers. The pressure range of the air pocket can range between 0.1-0.5 mPa. The adopted pressure standard is 0.15 MPa, that’s equivalent to approximately 22 psi.
This solution, combined with the insulated sandwich panels makes for a well insulated structure for temperature controlled storage.
Combating condensation
If you are currently using a standard storage unit or container and are suffering from condensation, a climate controlled building will reduce the effects of condensation. We can provide a solution that enables you to maintain a safe and comfortable working environment.
An interior anti-condensation membrane can be installed or retrofitted to combat condensation inside a temporary building. This material is fixed below the roof and protects the buildings contents from condensation.
Do you really need insulation in a temporary warehouse?
This really depends on the use case for the building, we can provide a standard non-insulated structure. A non-insulated structure may be more cost effective choice.
