A temporary and semi-permanent building, by definition are the same. The temporary and semi-permanent terms are used interchangeably, both temporary and semi-permanent options give you a faster, more flexible, and cost-effective alternative to traditional brick and mortar buildings.
Both structure types are manufactured off site, using prefabricated components and installed quickly in modular sections. Temporary and semi-permanent buildings can be dismantled, relocated, and reconfigured as needed. They are designed for flexible use and typically last up to 20 years. They are intended to be used as alternatives to permanent structures or traditional buildings. Both options require minimal groundworks and no permanent foundations, enabling you to expand your space quickly. In summary, we install both temporary and semi-permanent buildings.
This is a very common question and a key consideration if you need to expand your business with a new building. Do you need planning permission for a temporary building? In most cases, yes, you will need planning permission for a building or structure if it is in place for more than 28 days.
There could be exemptions, so it is recommended to consult with an expert before starting your project. We have an excellent track record of making the planning process easy, transparent and stress free. We work with trusted independent planning advisors and are on hand to help you at every stage of the process. We have a 100% success rate in securing planning permission for our buildings.
We can design and engineer a solution for any requirement or industry sector. All our structures provide uninterrupted internal space, flexibility and are designed around your needs. There are three main solutions, Firstly, non-insulated buildings, secondly, insulated buildings and finally, open sided canopies.
Non-insulated structures have industrial grade steel walling and are used for general storage of goods and equipment where temperature control is not required. Insulated structures are used where the regulation of the internal temperature is required, whether this be for the storage of sensitive goods or simply to create a warehouse or manufacturing facility that has the ability to keep the internal temperature comfortably within a specific temperature range. Open sided canopies are ideal for loading bay covers, warehouse canopies or overflow, open fronted storage for aggregates, pallets and materials.
Once you have established what type of building you need, you can design and specify your structure to your exact requirements. Modular buildings are typically manufactured in 5m bays to provide the length, eave heights of up to 10m can be achieved and the span, or width, can reach 40m across with a single structure.
We can engineer a completely custom structure for you or you can quickly configure your own standardised building for rapid delivery. With over 150+ bespoke options, we provide everything you need, including security, HVAC, doors, including roller shutter door and gates for plant and equipment access. We even manufacture in bespoke colours where required.
Terms like off-site, modular and prefabricated construction are used interchangeably and with one of our buildings you get the best of all three processes. Off-site manufacturing means that quality is controlled at every step, using the latest precision engineering technology. Prefabrication is a specific activity within the manufacturing process, referring to the individual components, like frames walling and panels.
Components such as frames, walling and roofing are pre-fabricated in a factory environment and transported to site for quick installation. The final stage is modular assembly, where prefabricated components are brought together in a systematic, quick bay-by-bay installation process. This modular approach allows for rapid, disruption free installation with the ability to extend, adapt or relocate in future years. Unlike fixed modular buildings, such as site cabins our structures enable custom configurations.
Our buildings are in the region of 70% cheaper than traditional bricks and mortar buildings. They can also offer a significant saving on any groundworks that may be required in comparison to a traditional build. This is because our structures do not need expensive foundations.
We create a bespoke design around your needs, giving you the best possible solution, without the need for expensive architects or consultants. Our team will design and engineer a solution with you. We can support you with a budget feasibility cost if you are at the early stages of the project. This initial proposal will include free indicative design drawings with no obligation and we can usually provide this in 24 working hours. Our approach is always collaborative and we will work with you to develop the design and provide an accurate cost proposal following a site visit.
Our temporary buildings are designed and engineered to the highest of quality standards, they can serve effectively for 20+ years. With so many different building codes and quality standards, it can be quite confusing to understand what they all actually mean. Our buildings conform to many standards and are designed to local wind loading calculations to ensure the design will be compliant with the BS6399 code.
The building is manufactured in an ISO-certified environment, ensuring that all manufacturing processes adhere to the highest international standards for quality and safety. To further enhance the benefits, if your business needs additional space, we can easily expand the rather than replacing it. This approach saves significant time and money while extending the life and usability of the structure.
There are three flexible purchase options to enable you to expand your business. Firstly, an outright purchase. This option gives you full ownership of the building. It’s a cost-effective investment for businesses that need permanent additional space without the expense of traditional construction.
A rental agreement enables you to hire your building for as long as you need with fast installation and no large upfront costs. Finally, you can finance a building, providing your business a way to spread the cost over time. Each option is supported by our expert team to help you choose the best fit for your site, budget, and timeframe.
No, you don’t need a concrete pad or base to install a temporary structure and the ground doesn’t need to be level. The best location and ground surface for a temporary structure is a flat, level, and accessible area with a firm surface and good drainage such as concrete, tarmac or compacted hardcore. Good drainage eliminates pooling water and provides the optimum surface if you are using it for storage. We understand that this doesn’t always exist in reality!
Our engineering team can design a solution that works on any ground surface, any gradient and in any location. We can accommodate slopes and undulating surfaces, retaining walls and other obstacles on your site with ease. Temporary buildings can be free standing or integrated into existing structures and positioned anywhere on your site for maximum efficiency. Our experienced team can visit your site to help you decide the best location for your building.
We can confidently say that our modern temporary buildings are designed to require minimal maintenance, making them a cost-effective and hassle-free solution for businesses that need extra space. High-quality aluminium frames and industrial-grade PVC roofs are built to withstand tough weather and heavy use.
Unlike permanent buildings, temporary buildings don’t require constant M&E servicing or other expensive routine maintenance. A basic visual check in line with routine site maintenance is usually all that’s needed. Whether you rent or buy, you’ll benefit from long-term performance with low ongoing costs. It is easy to adapt your building, move it around your site or even take the building to a new location should your needs change and that’s why they are such a popular solution.
Our buildings meet the demands of any sector, from warehousing and storage, transport and logistics, manufacturing, construction, retail, automotive, defence and more. All without the delays and expenses of traditional building. If you’re ready to get the space you need to grow, we’re here to help. Our team of experts share their knowledge and answer some common questions regarding temporary buildings
A temporary building is a hardwearing, long-lasting, highly durable structure. Temporary, refers to the fact that they are de-mountable and moveable buildings that provide the ultimate in durability and flexibility.
The four main types of temporary buildings are insulated buildings, industrial temporary buildings, long-term PCV structures and industrial canopies. These buildings can be used for a range of applications from warehousing and storage, through to manufacturing, workshops and temporary facilities such as gyms, classrooms and even car showrooms.
In most cases, yes you will need planning permission for a temporary building. There are some exceptions when planning may not be required and our feature on planning permission explains these. We can support you with the planning application, don’t let this put you off!
We can install a temporary building on almost any ground surface without the need for complex, expensive and disruptive foundations. The best surfaces include concrete, tarmac and compact hardcore. Even if you have a sloped site, we can engineer a solution.
We see it as “installation” rather than building as the structure is manufactured off-site at a state of the art factory. The elements are transported to your site and installed by our in-house team. The process usually takes 3-5 days for a typical build, minimising disruption and down time. You can find out more about the installation process in our expert guide.
The terminology of semi-permanent and temporary is often used interchangeably, leading to confusion. Temporary buildings are portable, de-mountable and movable structures. This gives you a large amount of flexibility and the ability to relocate or rent a temporary building. Generally, a semi-permanent building will have a solid roof and is not easily re-located.
Yes, as temporary buildings are modular, they are easy to repair, move and re-locate. Common repairs and modifications include PVC roof replacement and panel repairs. If you need a temporary building repair, our expert team can help. If you need to dismantle and remove a temporary building, we advice speaking to us first as we can help with removal and transport.
